Come to the Hearing on 12/15/11 & Update
Please come to the press conference at 9 a.m. and the City Council hearing at 10 a.m. this Thursday, December 15, 2011, at Chicago City Hall, Clark and Dearborn, second floor. It’s really important that we show that a large number of people support the anti-torture resolution.
To date, we have collected 1,031 signatures online and 1,507 signatures on the hard copy of the petition. A big Thank You to all of you who have gotten signatures or sent out the online petition far and wide. It has been great! We just received a page of signatures from the Jewish Council on Urban Affairs, so a special thank you to them. If you have signed copies of the petition, please send them to ICAT (Illinois Coalition against Torture) at 2502 West Division St., Chicago, Il., 60622 right away, because we want to turn them all in on Thursday. Or you could bring them to the press conference and hearing this Thursday.
Thank you very much.
Torture under no circumstances should be legal. What does this RESOLUTION establish for the 23 Jon Burge victims and those who were beat and tortured by his subordinates? We need remedy for the men still incarcerated as the result of Burge and his tortures.
Important to end Chicago’s condoned use of torture.
